Our Story

A Message from the Founder

Fifth Sense was born out of a love of storytelling, and a recognition of the importance of scent in our personal stories. Fragrance helps us to lock special moments into our memories forever – whenever we encounter those scents again, we re-experience those emotions.

 

Our sense of smell is fascinating. Scent alerts us to danger; keeps us safe from harm; helps us to attract a mate; enhances our sense of taste; and reignites memories and emotional states.

Like you, I’ve lived a life enhanced by the most inspiring stories – stories told to us in childhood, stories we live for ourselves, and stories created by the world around us. I wanted to craft fragrances that have the power to summon those pleasing narratives whenever we desire. The Fifth Sense delivers experiential stories we all relate to, through scent.

One winter’s day in 2017, I was struck by inspiration. I suddenly recognised just how important our human story is. By that, I mean the story we all carry within us. This story is comprised of countless moments, learning and memories that, once shared, can inspire, educate, and influence us. Our shared stories break down the barriers that divide us and prevent us from fulfilling our potential. In this way, our collective storytelling will open us up to new possibilities and a new future. In sharing and telling these stories, when we think of an experience, our subconscious instinctively attaches a smell or ‘note’ to it. We can recall the scent of the summers of our childhood. We can even imagine ‘the smell of success’. When it comes down to it, we are guided through life by scent.

 

Thinking about this, I found it captivating, and thought, ‘There’s got to be more people out there like me – on a similar journey, with similar passions for life. How can I communicate with these people? And how do I express these qualities in a fragrance?’

 

Well-balanced fragrances are composed of three fundamental notes: a top note, a middle note (or heart), and a base note. So, note by note, my associates and I selected precise formulas inspired by evocative experiences. With 200 different fragrance notes in our palette, we can accurately distinguish and determine the best scent to capture each personal quality, experience or expression of life.

 

I decided that my home fragrances would always carry a backstory – whether to comfort, inspire, or ignite your passions. When experiencing any of our aromas, you will feel the reassurance that someone shares the same story with you. You are not alone. Our senses unite us on this incredible journey of life, which we are all making together.
